Ancient water technologies are being revived to deal with Peru's ongoing drought
Peru has been facing a severe water crisis as chronic problems such as polluted water supplies and environmental change combine to undermine the water security of the entire country. However, the city of Lima is now using a series of ancient canals and irrigation channels built by pre-hispanic cultures around 2,000 years ago, and extended by the Wari and the Inca, in order to supply the inhabitants with clean, unpolluted water, and to maintain parks and other public green areas.

Mexico City's water crisis – from source to sewer
When a tormenta sweeps into Mexico City, the rain does not just fall, it insists. Gently at first with a mid-afternoon patter on windows and windscreens, then more urgently with an evening downpour that turns splashes into puddles, until finally – with a nighttime climax of thunder and lightning rolling down from the distant volcanos – the deluge gushes through gutters and gullies, transforming trickles in runnels into torrents in tunnels. The floods are a reminder of the natural order of things: water belongs here.

Rural communities of Nicaragua unite for water
In this village, there are small reserves of water unfit for consumption. However, Cristina says that they have had to drink it due to shortages. To address this problem and have access to safe water, the community organized a Water Committee and requested support from the project “Territorial approach to climate change in Las Segovias”.
