'''बहु उपयोगी जल सेवा (एमयूएस)''' एक नवोन्मेषी नजरिये वाली जल सेवा है. इसने अर्ध शहरी और ग्रामीण इलाकों में गरीबी उन्मूलन के लिए नये निवेश अवसरों की राह खोली है. एमयूएस ने लोगों की पानी संबंधी विविध आवश्यकताओं को अपनी योजना, नये तंत्र की संरचना और उन्नयन का शुरुआती बिंदू माना है. वैश्विक स्तर पर जल उपयोगकर्ता घरेलू तंत्र या सिंचाई तंत्र का इस्तेमाल विविध आवश्यकताओं के लिए करते आये हैं, भले ही यह कानूनी हो या नहीं. इन बहु उपयोगों को योजनाबद्ध तरीके से निवेश करने से, स्वास्थ्य, घरेलू परेशानियों से निजात, भोजन, आय और लैंगिक समानता जैसे कई लाभ होते हैं.
