BRAC Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Programme
BRAC’s mission is to work with people whose lives are dominated by extreme poverty, illiteracy, disease
and other disadvantages. With a holistic approach, they strive to bring about positive changes in the quality
of life of people who are poor. With an expansive grass roots infrastructure that ensures their reach is
national, they can implement programmes quickly and efficiently. Their new Water, Sanitation and Hygiene
Programme, began as a sanitation pilot under the Essential Health Care Programme and has since been
rolled out to 150 sub-districts. It is the first integrated approach to water, sanitation and hygiene that
involves the entire population of an area.
